The versatile glass bioreactor for lab-scale applications.

Maximise the potential from your bioprocess with Applikon glass bioreactors. By using only the highest quality components to meet the unique demands of a bioprocess, these glass bioreactors help support and optimise your research and process development. The systems are suitable for both cell culture and microbial culture applications.

Easily customise your glass bioreactor to meet your research demands.

The Applikon glass bioreactors are easy to adapt if your research changes. Thanks to the modularity and flexibility of the glass bioreactors, like the interchangeable modules, you can modify the system to fit any adaptations in process demands. Not only does this optimise the process, but also results in a cost decrease and low initial investment.

The stirred tank reactor (STR) is the most popular bioreactor. The Applikon glass autoclavable bioreactors are available in 2, 3, 5, 7, 15 and 20-litre volumes. They also come in both jacketed and single-wall versions, except the 20-litre volume which is only available in the single-wall version.

Features of the Applikon glass bioreactor

The glass bioreactor by Applikon excels in quality and compatibility. And with a simple set-up and easy handling, it makes for a great addition to your lab. Take a look at some more features of the bioreactor below:

Easy setup and a wide range of options

Applikon sets a worldwide standard with its bioreactor and fermentor range because of its dependable and simple-to-use systems. The glass autoclavable bioreactors are no different. They are designed to be set up and handled with ease.

The glass bioreactors also feature a wide range of volumes and interchangeable modules to tailor the systems to the research demands. See below for a list of some of the customisation options available:

  • Get your glass bioreactor in 2, 3, 5, 7, 15 or 20 litres.
  • Direct drive system with the option to be lipseale or magnetically coupled.
  • Standard stirrer speed range of 50-1250 rpm. However, the 2 and 3-litre systems also have an optional 2000 rpm motor.
  • Rushton and marine impellers are used with the option for outside diameters of 45 mm, 60 mm, 75 mm or 85 mm.
  • Carry out sampling with a fixed or adjustable height sample pipe with an optional sampling system. Sample pipe internal diameter options are 1.7 mm, 4 mm, 6 mm or 10 mm.
  • Control the temperature via cooling and/or heating jacket or via the internal heat exchanger.
  • The glass bioreactors can be used up to 0.5 barg (7.5 psig) of overpressure.

High-quality components

All Applikon bioreactors are constructed with exceptional care and attention. All metal parts of the glass bioreactors are made using stainless steel 316L and have an external electropolished mirror finish, simplifying the cleaning process. Sterilisation is also simplified thanks to no welded parts in the bioreactor topplate.

Borosilicate glass used for the glass dished bottom vessels

The glass dished bottom vessels of the bioreactors are made with borosilicate glass which guarantees:

  • Resistance to thermal shock
  • Great corrosion resistance
  • A smooth, non-porous surface for easy cleaning
  • Optimal transparency for visual inspection of the culture
